Caspar Berry gives the corporate world a greater understanding of their decision-making process. He shows people that all decisions are investment decisions. Investments of time, money, status, energy, comfort and security made with the intention of getting some kind of long term return. He tries to give people a better understanding of what “risk” is and how it is calculated in its essential form. This calibrated mathematical language allows people to understand, view and critically evaluate their decisions (and those of others) in a new way. He gives an understanding of the psychology of decision making and the cause of risk aversion among humans: i.e. why we are reluctant to embrace short term failures for long term gain. His final objective is to give participants an original and empowering method for using their own natural risk aversion as a motivational tool that can be used to achieve better long term results. And all of this is done using poker as a fun and engaging but completely relevant metaphor throughout.

Ian & Caspar discuss;

  • Early days on Byker Grove
  • Becoming an award-winning director
  • Film making
  • The challenges of the film industry
  • The early days in Las Vegas
  • Discovering Poker and becoming a pro player
  • The ROI of risk taking
  • Being prepared to risk it
  • Educated and non-educated risk taking
  • The risks associated with sales leads
  • Low risk & High risk projects
  • If we do this Vs if we never do this

Knocked off his bicycle by a drunken container truck driver Laurie sustained a severe traumatic brain injury, a broken neck & an amputated right leg. At the time he was in the final year of a PhD in Exercise Science that focused on muscle metabolism and feedback to the brain, the same systems that were now severely disrupted. Laurie’s subsequent research emerged from his personal struggles in regaining his own health and wellbeing. His focus changed to researching the brain-body link with a particular interest in optimising bodily stress reactivity (composure) when performing under pressure.

Nervous system training entails using correct body posture, slow conscious movements and heightened awareness to undo the mental interference which prevents our bodily systems from working harmoniously. This enables us to tap into the 3 motivated behaviours programmed in our deeply subconscious reptilian brain.

‘Motivated’ behaviours, are naturally done without thinking PLUS they release energy into the body. When these do not occur naturally (mostly due to mental interference) the release of energy is inhibited and we feel tension in the body.

Drew Graham - Pop-up Gym

Drew, 33, was an athlete specializing in middle distance running, namely the 1500m.

During his late teenage years and early twenties, Drew experienced a lot of success on the track, winning several northern championships and competing at the British Olympic trials following which Drew was awarded a sports scholarship to Adams State University in Colorado, USA where he studied human performance and physical education with a minor in business alongside competing in the National Collegiate Athletics Association.

Whilst in America Drew won several NCAA titles at both 1500m and 1 mile and in both individual and team capacities.

Following graduation Drew moved to Texas to become a running coach at Abeline Christian University where worked for several years, however this all came to an abrupt end whilst on a visit to see his girlfriend in Colorado when Drew was training for a triathlon and went for a swim in a nearby lake.

Unfortunately, a sand bar had formed so as he dove into the lake he broke his neck and crushed his spinal cord, resulting in paralysis from the chest down.

Following a year attending a of state of the art rehabilitation in the USA, Drew returned to the UK to find access and opportunities to use similar equipment severely lacking, with those that were available being extremely expensive.  Thus the idea for Pop-Up Gym was born and after two years of fundraising and establishing Pop-Up Gym as a charity, it was finally opened on the 15th January 2018.

We now have over 30 members using the gym  regularly, and plan to take it out on the road around the North of England to help  those who are unable to travel to Gateshead.

His first goal was to crawl 8 feet from the hospital bed to the bathroom. He went on to Redefine Impossible by climbing 29,035 feet to the top of Mt. Everest with one lung! From there he stood atop the highest point on all 7 continents, skied to the South and North Poles, and completed the Hawaii Ironman. Sean has been interviewed by Steve Harvey, CBS Evening News, Fox & Friends, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, Huffington Post, Outside the Lines, Sports Center, Washington Post, USA Today, Sports Center, and countless others. His numerous articles with thought leaders such as Sir Richard Branson and Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu put him in a category by himself.

The first cancer survivor to stand on the top of the world!
With only one functioning lung, a prognosis of fourteen days to live, and being in a medically-induced coma for a year, Sean Swarner is the first cancer survivor to stand on top of the world… Mt. Everest. Sean has broken through defined human limitation in order to redefine the way the world views success.

Sean was diagnosed with two deadly, different, and unrelated forms of cancer, once at the age of thirteen and again at the age of sixteen. After an incredibly poor prognosis, and being read his last rites, Sean astounded the medical community when he survived both these brutal diseases. He realized that after defeating cancer twice, no challenge would ever be too great, no peak too high.

Sean proved his theory when he crested the peak of Mt. Everest. As the first cancer survivor to do so, Sean decided to continue climbing and has since topped the highest peaks in Africa, Europe, South America, Australia, Antarctica, and North America, thus completing the “7-Summits”. Upon skiing to both the South and the North Poles, Sean completed the Explorer’s Grand Slam.

With the completion of the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, Sean is the only person in history to accomplish these inhuman feats.

As Sean continues to defy the odds, test his own endurance and inspire and motivate people around the world, he shares his message of healing, hope, and triumph with cancer patients worldwide. Sean also serves as a source of inspiration as the founder of the non-profit organization, The CancerClimber Association, as author of the book “Keep Climbing,” and as a motivational speaker to corporations, universities, and other organizations around the globe.

Ian and Sean discuss:

  • Suffering with cancer
  • Climbing Everest
  • Setting the goal to climb the seven summits
  • Kilimanjaro project
  • North & South Pole experience
  • Life is finite – one chance
  • What’s next? Space flight?

Hi, I'm Nick Mann, a Graphic/Web Designer.

But when you get right down to it, I'm much more — I'm a marketer, a motivator, a blogger, and an amateur astronomer.

I'm also a big believer in the power of branding.

Branding is what makes us believe in products and services. When we see it, we recognize what impact it has in our lives because we buy on a desire to make life easier.

And so I create visual experiences to create that reaction. I create brands for business owners, non-profits, and dreamers, seeking how to communicate their service & products in memorable, engaging, and high personality ways, so that they will attract the right audiences and move them toward their goals.

Hi, I’m Lawrence Mitchell: I’m a health enthusiast, health and business coach, author, Chief Customer & Marketing Officer, investor, and I founded Raw Energy back in 2013 as a platform to help people take back control of their health, feel and look great, and think more clearly.
Having worked in fast moving and forever changing corporate environments for over 20 years, I learnt early that in order to survive and thrive, I had to focus resources on maintaining my health and building my resilience.

To be honest, my interest for healthy living didn’t start until my early 20s. At 19 years of age, I was overweight, lethargic and confused. I was anxious and full of self doubt. What I had, though, was a supportive family, good friends and a drive and determination to look better, feel better and think more clearly at some point in the future. So I lived my life in the now: eating fast foods, drinking alcohol, going to bed late and smoking a lot. I ignored the pains in my chest and kept thinking, someday I’ll change.

Someday came one day in May when I was 24 years of age. I can’t quite explain what happened, but that day sitting on the beach in Western Ireland, gave me a premonition of my future self. It wasn’t a pretty vision and scared me enough to motivate me to start to make some significant changes to my lifestyle habits which changed the whole path of my life. I focused my attention on studying the pros and cons of the many different nutritional theories out there from high carbs to low carbs, raw food to paleo and everything in between, devoting hours and hours of time to answer the simple question: what is the best diet for health and longevity?

As I learnt, my confidence grew, my grocery shopping became easier and I got great results: sustained weight loss, better sleep, higher resilience, increased energy.

Over the last few years, my focus has evolved from supporting my physical wellbeing only, to building my mental and emotional resilience, a key skill required as a leader in a forever changing, people-intense corporate environment where I moved from one transition to another, and found myself in the middle of countless perfect storms.

In 2012, I trained as a health coach to help others create their own lifestyle systems, and in 2014, recognised the need to coach my whole organisation to health. This resulted in the award-winning RBI Living Well programme, a corporate wellbeing programme that supported 3,000 employees through education, data and community initiatives.

At Raw Energy, everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy and set of values. We believe that anyone can transform their health, their wellbeing and their whole lives by making some simple changes to their lifestyle and putting in proper mechanisms and tools to help them succeed.

I'm a speaker and trainer. As a speaker, I specialise in resilience, emotional robustness, public speaking and presenting.

As a trainer, I'm the director of the training company Aware Plus and I have a particular speciality as a trainer and coach helping anyone who wants to make better use of their voice or who wants (needs?) to make better presentations. Basically, it all boils down to 'impact'.

... and you can find more stuff about the in-house presentation training we do and the public presentation training too! ... all you have to do is ask! 🙂

An old review of one of my courses finished with "It changed my life." Frankly I'm not sure I'm that good (I'm not sure ANYONE's that good! 🙂 ) but it was in The Times, so who am I to argue? A more recent one simply told their HR department they'd made a mistake to only employ me for one course: "... the best trainer I've ever encountered".

I'm passionate about what I do and I do it well. Sometimes I'm even modest about it! 🙂 I'm always happy to talk things over and - if I can - give some freebie advice by phone or email.

Thought Strategist ... what an ideal way to describe Alison Donaghey who also serves as a successful business owner, author and speaker. Alison specializes in challenging people to think about what they think about and to Think Opposite at least once a day. She can share countless examples of how encouraging others to question their status quo often leads to improvements not only in their world but the world.

Her greatest success story for "think opposite" is her own. Alison formed her own woman-owned painting business despite being a male dominated industry. Thinking strategically from the very beginning has proven to be the most critical part of her business which has served the British Columbia Area for the past seventeen years.

"I have a concept to Think Opposite. To start to explore the other side of your belief or thought. In doing so a person can become more conscious of their thinking and more comprehensive in their position.  It is my intention to ask people to at least once a day in any situation to stop, breathe and think opposite.

I have just published a book that hit international best seller in cognitive psyc and decision making in business. It is called Change Your Business, Change the World: The Domino Effect of Your thinking.  I write about how, once you get your business in alignment, you can use it to change the world.

I also have a radio show called Natural Born Speakers and have been invited to speak for the Women Economic Forum in Santa Barbara, The Hague, London and New Delhi. I speak to women business networking groups about how we think."

The Ultimate Triathlon - Climb, Row, Cycle.

On 1st February 2014, James became the first and only person to have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean, successfully summited Mount Everest and cycled 18,000 miles around the world.

Seven years prior to this, he was recovering from a serious motorcycle accident that left him with broken legs as well as a severely broken and dislocated ankle. The prognosis was that he was likely to suffer a permanent walking impairment and would certainly not be able to continue the active physical lifestyle he had enjoyed up to that point.

James has continued pushing boundaries and in 2015 attempted to row 4,000 miles across the Indian Ocean with his Epileptic rowing partner. Their aim was to prove that despite having Epilepsy or a disability there is no barrier to pursuing ones goals. Two hundred and fifty miles offshore James’ rowing partner sustained a head injury resulting in a full-scale ocean rescue that was global news. James found himself clinging to a rope ladder on the side of a 100,000-ton crude oil tanker as he climbed to safety in storm force winds.

James has raised tens of thousands of pounds for his chosen charities as he has climbed, rowed, and cycled his way around the world!

James is also a keen supporter of Scouting and is a Scouting Ambassador.
